Small and medium-sized enterprises in the UK will up their IT budgets by 10.7 percent in 2007, more than twice the rate seen in France and Germany, according to AMR Research.

SMEs with less than $250m in revenue will be 2007's big spenders, with IT budgets anticipated to be up 12.4 percent over the three largest IT markets in Europe: France, Germany and the UK.

IT budgets are predicted to rise by 6.4 percent overall in the coming year across the three European countries, up slightly from 2006's growth rate of 5.6 percent.

Overall companies put better utilisation and analysis of data as their priorities when trying to work out what to spend their bigger budgets on over the next 12 months.

E-business projects — many SMEs have yet to embrace the internet fully — and business process outsourcing were higher priorities among the high-spending SMEs.

France is forecast to increase IT spending by 4.7 percent and Germany by 5.8 percent in 2007.
