The Internet is for porn (and 'World of Warcraft')

One of the best things about the Internet these days is the unending flow of terrific Web videos that crack you up, even as you're wondering who has the time to put such things together.

Now, with "The Internet is for porn," comes perhaps (hyperbole warning!) the king of all such silliness.

The "The Internet is for porn" video was made entirely in "World of Warcraft," but the lyrics for one glorious number--one in which a lady monster sings about the Internet's most wonderful aspects while a slightly gruffer male monster counters that "the Internet is for porn,"--is straight from (as pointed out by an alert reader) the Broadway musical, "Avenue Q."

In the song, the monster's go back and forth--she argues that anyone who would use the Internet for porn is a pervert. He essentially replies: "Hey, what do you think they made the Internet for in the first place?"

This is truly silly, and there's a little bit of salacious language, so you might want to keep away from your kids. Buy the best part is the production value. They hit the marks, so to speak, spot on. The video is timed so the monsters appear to be singing the Avenue Q music and the lyrics almost exactly as if they were doing it themselves and as if this was not just an amateur bit of machinima.

And the fact that they chose to lampoon this song (with monsters) with particular argument--is the Internet for porn or for sending birthday cards?--in "World of Warcraft" is particularly delicious.
