LucasArts is prepared to make many a Star Wars fans' dreams come true this fall with Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which will feature lightsaber battles controlled by the Wiimote.
"Clone Wars for the Wii is all about lightsaber dueling," producer Ken Fox told IGN. "It's about swinging your Wii remote like a Lightsaber and recreating what we know will be classic Lightsaber battles from the movie and the show." Fox said the lightsaber will be controlled by Wii remote movements. Player movement will be controlled by the analog stick on the nunchuk. Force powers can be performed through button presses, he said. This latest Star Wars venture (it's also hitting up the Nintendo DS) joins Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, which is also arriving on store shelves this fall. The Wii version of that title will also feature prominent motion controls, although The Clone Wars is the first game that LucasArts has explicitly said will feature near one-to-one sword fighting. "We really tried to make it feel like you get to swing your Lightsaber 'manually'," Fox said. "In short, it feels like the most natural and convincing sword type experience I've had on the Wii. And on top of that, it's not just a sword, it's a lightsaber." In related news, former LucasArts employees (recently let go in the massive 80% layoffs from last week), said that LucasArts is developing a number of other Star Wars game franchise sequels, including Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 3, and Star Wars Battlefront 3. There was no confirmation from LucasArts on those titles. The new Star Wars: The Clone Wars games are scheduled to arrive sometime in November.
