MetaProducts has released StartUp Organizer v. 2.5, a utility that makes it easy to inspect, edit and temporarily disable the programs that are started when Windows loads. In addition to enhancing your security by eliminating spyware and other unnecessary programs, StartUp Organizer provides a simple way to clean your boot-up process, making your system faster and more stable.
With trojan, worm and virus attacks on the increase, all users will appreciate the added security and peace of mind that StartUp Organizer brings to Windows computing. With its intuitive, Explorer-like screen, StartUp Organizer lets you easily find every program initiated when your computer is booted and determine what to do with it, long term and short term. You can quickly remove programs that you don't want to run, or add programs that you use every day. On Windows NT4, 2000, XP and 2003 computers, you can see the exact sequence of autostarted programs, including the exact time that each program began running. The program's StartUp Guard will check and block standard and non-standard ways to start suspicious programs and trojan intrusions. The latest version of StartUp Guard detects DLL files which have access to the memory of your running applications, giving you protection against the next generation of trojan and virus attacks. A typical computer has more than a dozen programs that are started automatically each time the computer is powered up. Some of these programs are essential utilities that Windows requires. Many of them are remnants of software that you uninstalled months ago, programs that search the Internet to see if there are upgrades for software that you're no longer using and other dubious software that may be using valuable RAM and hard drive space. By not running unnecessary programs, your computer will run faster and have fewer system conflicts and crashes. StartUp Organizer offers Controlled StartUp, a super-fast system start that frees additional RAM and other system resources. For example, if you have a business application or game that works better with additional memory, you can use a single keystroke to keep other programs from launching automatically and using these valuable resources. The program lets you control the order in which programs are launched. This allows you to ensure that your firewall is running before your Internet connection is established, as well as control all of the interdependencies that exist between your important software applications. On Windows NT4, 2000, XP and 2003 computers, it's easy to maintain profiles for multiple computer users. When you log into StartUp Organizer using the Admin account, you can see and modify the configurations of all users on your screen in a single operation. This feature lets system administrators save time and money, as well as maintain a high level of security. StartUp Organizer offers a real-time monitoring system to alert you when your startup configuration is being changed by a third-party program. This monitoring can be set to warn you when a trojan or other spyware is inserted into your startup processing. It can also be set to automatically ban such programs from being included in your startup process. You can even automatically detect and remove programs which were added to your startup configuration by other software, and easily restore them if, in fact, they don't pose a security threat.
