iRemotePC is a tool for support services which simplifies remote PC administration and support services

Different people associate the iRemotePC project in various ways. It is a system for remote user guidance and assistance for a support service or an easy way of remote PCs administration for network administrators and even it is a tool for web-chat, file sharing in protected mode for common users of local home networks. It is significant that iRemotePC performs virtually all actions in protected mode (SSL). Why did I referred iRemotePC to a project not a software product? The matter is that iRemotePC is closely integrated with web and works in the connection with programs launched on client. These programs are installed on the fly and do not require computer reboot.

Let’s separate two components of iRemotePC: iRemotePC Access Service and iRemotePC Remote Support Service.


iRemotePC Remote Support Service is a comprehensive web-based system for users support.

iRemotePC Remote Access Service is a more full version of iRemotePC intended for remote home and office computers administration, file and in the near future multimedia streams transferring. I have called it "more full version" because of integrated iRemotePC Remote Support Service.

So let’s examine iRemotePC Remote Support Service − a component of iRemotePC at first.

iRemotePC Remote Support Service

The mission of our web-based system iRemotePC Remote Support Service is distinctly clear. It consists in joining of remote user’s and developer’s computers without previously installed software.

A technical supporter is in unique and beneficial condition. He can use any OS. All that he needs is web browser and minimum Java JRE 1.4+. So, software developer can support user remotely, say from own work PC (and don’t care about which OS installed).

And a user can run on his PC any of operation systems Windows (by the way, Vista OS is supported as well).
The system surprised me with pleasant intuitive user interface. Though all the system is provided with various helps and quick guides I used them only because of my curiosity to check if I let pass something important. Everything is clear after the first launching as if I used the system many times.
In my opinion the main advantage of the product is not so much its attractive user interface as the availability of remote assistance for a user with minimal knowledge.

Little tricks

I’d like to note that the remote PC administration is easier if screen resolution on a remote user’s PC is lower than a technician’s screen resolution. Therefore it is recommended to adjust optimal screen resolution for remote computer in Options menu. Nevertheless, for comfortable system use the technician’s screen resolution must be not lower than 1280x1024.


In one word cross-platform development has done its part. Web-based systems became more and more thorough and interesting.

iRemotePC Remote Access Service

This section discuss one of the most important parts of iRemotePC – Remote Access Service.
IRemotePC Remote Access Service is not a web-based system, but software application which is launched on your PCs you would like to administrate remotely. To say in correct way it is rather а service, not an application.
It is easy to get access to control this service. Using the program icon in the system tray and you can get access to almost all iRemotePC parameters in few clicks.

So what are the advantages of the iRemotePC? What facilities shall we get when install it on our PC? Of course we can read promotional material and a description of iRemotePC on developer’s web site, but we will try to evaluate the program taking a detached view.

Share Files

Easily and quickly I provided an access to my file for other user. All settings are performed using “Wizards” so no any complexities occurred. All you need to do is answer the questions and press “Next”.
The program provided me with URL which I should to send to user for downloading.
The file is downloaded on the user’s PC via secure channel through the server iremotepc.com. iRemotePC completed this task perfectly.
If you already tried share files feature you might to note that only one file can be shared in one operation (no share folders option). Please, do not consider it as imperfection of the program. The program is not intended for files sharing in such global scale – it’s designed for secure file transfer between users.

Invite Guest to this PC

There is one more interesting feature: you can perform presentation or demonstration on your PC for another user.
I choose myself what features I want to provide to visitor of my PC.
In the section "Features allowed to Guest" I set "View Screen Only" (or, if desired, other features). Then I press "Invite". Then a user receive an invitation email with a link to open.

After the link is opened a GUEST can chat in one browser window and observe my screen in another one.

In this case I have used this feature for presentation demonstration on my PC. But this feature can be used in different ways. It can be used, for example, for remote support. If you allow file transferring, PC administration and other features, the "Invite Guest to this PC" feature becomes the same tool as Remote Support Service (web-based). But in this case the initiator of the session is the owner of the PC with Remote Access Service installed.

Within the next few time the Athivision Inc. will announce the Media Streaming feature in iRemotePC.

We have discussed Interactive Features, but the main and convenient application of this product is ahead. Once installed iRemotePC Remote Access Services on your PCs (at home and in office) you can administrate them via web-based system. Please visit a website and log in remote access section. Select My Computers and start administrating. You will see the similar to "Invite Guest to this PC" user interface. Moreover, you can add secondary sub-users.
