Google confirms bid for US mobile airwaves

Google said on Friday that it will bid for coveted mobile airwaves in a move that could pit the web-search leader against US wireless service providers.

The search giant said it will submit a formal application with the US Federal Communications Commission on Monday.

Google's application to bid for the 700MHz wireless spectrum does not include any partners.
