It's been a busy time for Microsoft's Security Response Team. Last week's emergency patch was followed by five security bulletins this week, four of which were tagged "critical." Adding to the stress, several zero-day vulnerabilities in Office and Windows have surfaced, including one that cybercrooks are already using in attacks.
CNET News.com's Joris Evers and CNET.com's Robert Vamosi discuss the Microsoft trouble in this week's Security Bites podcast and predict another out-of-cycle patch. Evers and Vamosi also focus on Storm worm variants that are pounding in-boxes and ask the questions: Is this really a worm? And is traditional antivirus software outdated? Finally, it appears that Good Samaritan hackers are avoiding Web apps out of fear of prosecution. As a result, online applications may be less secure. Related Links:
