I’ve been looking for a simple and fast tool to search in the network and on local drives. And I came across Network Searcher. As far as I see, its tremendous search speed is reached through a large number of parallel processes that use several threads to search for files. Though I’m not that sure about it.

The program can create reports of different formats. As for me, I found it quite useful when creating playlists for WinAmp. I’ve got more then 250Gb of music on my drive, and beside it there’s more music in the local network. In order not to get lost in such a huge amount of information, you need to have a powerful search tool.

It was Network Searcher that helped me in this case. I just searched through network drives, including my local drive, using *.mp3 mask. Then I just pressed “Save” and picked MP3 list (*.m3u). That’s all – the playlist is ready.
To my surprise, it took Network Searcher only 5 minutes to complete the search. To compare the search time, I decided to have the standard Windows XP search tool accomplish the same task using the same mask. The time was 5 times as long. That is 25 minutes. I think, that Microsoft Corporation should implement a more powerful file search tool in its operating system, taking the advantages of BGSoft technologies. It is possible that Network Searcher uses more network and other computers resources, but the result is achieved much faster, even if you use Network Searcher for plain search, not creating reports on files and playlists for WinAmp.

It seems to me that the above numbers speak for themselves.
If you need to search for something in the local network or on your computer, then you’ve already got a proper tool for it.

I tried to search in the Internet too.
The program can search by range of IP addresses. There are computers in the Internet that share its resources for own local network, but don’t take the guest accounts off. So if you try and search for some time, you may come across pretty good music, movies and other useful things. As for me, I’ve found a lot of cartoons and even adult video and porno. May the creators of this program forgive me. :) The main thing is that you can search in your subnet – it increases the speed because the computers are closer.
You can get to know more about other Network Searcher features in the program’s description. But testing once is better then reading a hundred times.
